On January 19, 2012, Governor Earl Ray Tomblin issued a proclamation marking this day as the first ever West Virginia Physical Activity Day.  In a day filled with events at the capitol building and across the state, The WV Physical Activity Plan was officially unveiled.  To celebrate this day, physical activity demonstrations were held inside the capitol, students across the state danced to the cupid shuffle and state and federal lawmakers made remarks in support of the plan.
